Joe,

I had a quick glance at the AMD patent and it doesn't seem relevant to
sFlow. It appears to cover a form of distributed switching. It's a little
surprising that the patent was granted since the technique has been around a
while, for example see section 2.7 "Intervention Mode" in this data sheet
from Galileo Technologies from 1996:
